Ryan J. Krupp, M.D.

Ryan J. Krupp, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and complex shoulder reconstruction. He provides patient-centered care tailored to each individual’s goals, activity level, and long-term joint health. Dr. Krupp performs a wide range of shoulder procedures, including complex shoulder reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, shoulder instability surgery, and sports-related procedures.

From 2008 to 2025, Dr. Krupp practiced at Norton Orthopedic Institute in Louisville, where he also served as Executive Medical Director for Orthopedics and Director of Sports Health and Shoulder Reconstruction for Norton Healthcare. In these roles, he helped lead clinical innovation, education, and orthopedic program development.

Dr. Krupp is deeply committed to education and research. He holds clinical faculty appointments at multiple regional universities and has trained orthopedic residents, physician assistants, physical therapists, and athletic trainers. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, authored book chapters, and presented his work nationally and internationally.

Recognized for his expertise, Dr. Krupp has served as a team physician for collegiate, professional, and endurance athletes, including Major League Baseball spring training programs and Ironman Louisville. He has received numerous honors, including multiple Louisville Magazine Top Doctor and Top Surgeon awards.

Dr. Krupp is actively involved in advancing orthopedic innovation, contributing to the development of next-generation shoulder implants, robotic-assisted shoulder replacement, and mixed-reality surgical technologies. His focus is on improving outcomes, enhancing implant longevity, and supporting minimally invasive approaches to shoulder care.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Louisville School of Medicine (Summa Cum Laude, Alpha Omega Alpha) and completed his fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Reconstruction at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas.

Outside of work, Dr. Krupp enjoys spending time with his family, staying active, and traveling.
